The Jazzgroove Association is fulfilling a longtime dream this January by staging a festival of local music, all by itself. If you have ever been a patron of Jazzgroove’s regular presentations on tuesday nights in Surry Hills, or perhaps caught one of the great Jazz:Now Festivals at the Opera House studio, this is definitely worth checking out.
The Jazzgroove Mothership Orchestra play the Surry Hills Excelsior on January 17th as part of the festival.
One of the exciting details about this (which is kind of a sneaky fringe fest to the gargantuan Sydney Festival) is that it includes a couple of great venues in Surry Hills, (the Macquarie Hotel and the Surry Hills Excelsior) and some great free music, as well as workshops; this is a great expansion of the Jazz:Now spirit which included wonderful programming, but was bound to one small venue and one presentation style. In addition to the official venues there’s also going to be a city-wide influx of Jazzgroove buskers to grab potential audience’s attention.
