The Keijzer McGuiness Quintet will play the Kinetic Jazz Festival on the evening of the 31st January. Kinetic Jazz is a new festival. Check out the full program and line-up here.
The inspiration for Kinetic Jazz came from Graham Jones and Jepke Goudsmit, the artistic directors of Kinetic Energy Theatre Company, together with their friend and colleague musician/curator Lee McIver.
Kinetic Energy Theatre Company has had a long association with jazz in Sydney collaborating with leading jazz composers for their theatre work, through to presenting the music series ‘Jazz on the Edge’ during the 1990’s. They have now joined forces with some of these artists to create the Kinetic Jazz Festival.
The inaugural 2010 Kinetic Jazz festival will have a piano focus featuring a number of solo and piano trio performances. Stuart & Sons, the creators of the highly acclaimed Stuart Piano, have kindly agreed to provide a grand piano for the festival which will no doubt delight both the performers and the audience.
Kinetic Jazz is bringing together some of Australia’s finest creative jazz artists. Tony Gould heads a stellar line up of pianists which includes Kevin Hunt, Paul McNamara, Jackson Harrison, Peter Dasent and Roger Dean.
Other festival highlights include: Sandy Evans featuring Toby Hall, Brett Hirst and special guest Alister Spence. The Keijzer McGuiness quintet. The Jeremy Rose quartet. Trumpeter Mike Kenny and saxophonists Richard Meagraith & Jason Morphett with the Lab Band Septet. Don Reid presents a tribute to Brubeck with Blue Rondo. Kinetic Energy will perform a short work indicative of the company’s inherent sense of musicality each evening. Closing the festival will be the Polymorphic Orkestra with their rich mix of sound and visual textures.
