“2.5 by 6 metres space. That and a pair of huge JBL or Altec speakers, a couple hundred jazz records and a bar counter were all that was necessary to open your basic jazz kissa.” – Otomo Yoshihide
You are invited to join us from 7:30pm April 1st at Studio Impermanent in Sydney’s Inner West (map) for 90 minutes of media to widen your ears, curated and introduced by Simon Barker. There will be some refreshments available, or bring your own. A video interview and playlist will follow the event on this blog.
In 2005, Simon was commissioned by the Australian Embassy, Seoul to create a cultural exchange event for the 2005 Australia Month Festival in Korea. This led to the formation of Daorum, a group featuring pansori singer Bae Il Tong, Korean traditional percussionist Kim Dong Won, Phil Slater, Matt McMahon and Carl Dewhurst. The group has also performed at the 2006 Jeonju Sori Festival in Korea, the 2007 Queensland Music Festival, and the 2008 OZASIA Festival, Adelaide. He is also involved in several collaborative projects including Band of Five Names, Showa 44 and Red Fish Blue.
